Anyone who’s raced or done a group ride in SoCal should know about Phil Tintsman. He is a regular on rides and a regular on the podium. The X Games gold medalist of the 90’s, former mountain biker, occasional cyclocross rider and road racer sits down and we discuss his latest projects from being undefeated in RAAM to making BWR bigger and better. Phil is a cycling industry staple working with some great brands such as Spy, Masi, Haro and heading up the Monster Media cycling team. A team that is growing in numbers but keeping competitive cycling very much at it’s core. We have a similar past in that we both raced in the 90’s in Arizona, moved to Southern California, took a long hiatus from the sport and then jumped back into it. He explains some of his mindset when it comes to training and racing and also what it’s like to balance a family with still competing at a high level. We discuss races outside of our area like Tulsa Tough and Criterium Nationals and what we can learn from those types of events. Also we talk training, rest, nutrition and knowing when to push the pace and when to sometimes turn around and go home. He has a long and diverse history in the sport but has found a family in the cycling community in Southern California and now he looks to give back to the sport in hopes the younger generation has a resurgence that it did when Phil was racing as a junior. Many folks are looking forward to hearing from Phil and he does not disappoint.
